American Overture for Band by Joseph Wilcox Jenkins has become a staple part of the American band literature. The South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble, directed by Dr. Keith W. Hodgson opens their concert, 250 Years of Freedom: A Grand American Jubilee! with this exciting composition.
Alfred Reed is know for his outstanding compositions for wind band, and none surpasses the iconic "A Festival Prelude."
Keith W. Hodgson guest conducts the 147 year old Quakertown Band during the 2024 Banding Together concert with the South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble.
Glenn Osser's "Beguine for Band" is played by the combined South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble and the 147 year old Quakertown Band in a June 9, 2024 concert titled, "Banding Together;" The combined bands are conducted by Keith W. Hodgson..
Paprikash by Julie Giroux is a lively piece of music which was first performed in Dec. of 2014 at the Mid-West Clinic. A few months later the South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble and 50 of South Jersey's finest student musician played the piece to a packed house at Stockton University in New Jersey under the direction of Keith W. Hodgson.
The 2024 American Prize winning South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble is augmented by 26 outstanding high school students side by side playing Clare Grundman's Fantasy on American Sailing Songs. The concert was presented in the beautiful Atlantic County Institute of Technology Performing Art Center on May 4, 2025. The band is conducted by the Association of Concert Bands 2024 Outstanding conductor, Dr. Keith W. Hodgson.
Firefly, a masterpiece composed by Ryan George for his two children, is played by the South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble at their June 9, 2024 Banding Together Concert. The June 9, 2024 event featured the outstanding 147 year old Quakertown Band and SJAWE. The bands each played 20 minutes individually and then combined for four numbers. This is the SJAWE opening number, Firefly, conducted by Keith W, Hodgson.
